I am not trying to write a post for everyday in China 'cause somedays there isn't anything to write about.
The main event for the 2nd day was going to my friend Jon's wedding. Jon and I met about 6 years ago. He is friend of Maki's brother-in-law. (Some of you might know Maki as the "water girl" from orange nails) Unlike Mr.rabbit who isn't too hot about Chinese culture, Jon loves it. I had a chance to introduce one Chinese girl to him (the daughter of a friend of my aunt's). And they hitted off which is great! Now they are married and Jon is moving to China which Mr.rabbit might not do and I actually prefer US too. I had the honour to go their American celebration and now I am invited to go to their Chinese wedding.
I got up early. I always got up early the first coupe days of travel between China and US due to the jet lag. But I just stayed in bed to not awake my parents. When I heard they woke up. I got out of the bed too. My parents live in the same apartment since 1991. It is close to the downtown, and it's very easy to get around. But since it's an older building, it has no elevator. My parents are use to live here and only two of them. So they do everything loud like I am not here. Maybe its because there are too many people in China, that no one had privacy, therefore, no one give others privacy.
I got up and had breakfast with them. Then worked on the vitamins and gifts which I bought back. Soon after that, it was lunch time. I was surprised how close it is the breakfast and lunch. In the States, I normally get up around 10 a.m, first meal around 11:30 a.m, second meal around 3:30 pm, and thrid meal around 8:30 pm. That was all because of my work schedule. After lunch, my parents went to take a nap. Yes. They take nap everyday! So I decided to go take a nap as well. The wedding is not until 6 pm and I had to wait for my aunt too since she was invited as well. My aunt is off work at 5 pm. So I had about 4 hours.
When my aunt called about 5:30 pm, I dressed up and put makeup on fast to meet her downstairs. The wedding was at Chengdu social club which is only 2 bus stops from my parents' apartment (like 20 mintues walk or 4 blocks away). We took the bus and got there before 6 pm. We saw this huge billboard which has both Jon and his wife (Kris) on. Very beautiful made. Kris' mom was there welcome us. We signed on the billboard and were led to the main hall. It's a beautiful traditional Chinese house. Everything is very Chinese since the wedding has a traditional Chinese ceremony like the one I had. Jon was standing in the entrance of the hall. He had head to toe traditional Chinese groom outfit on (with a hat too). And it looked like 20 people around him and all wanted to take picture of or with him. I didn't want to disturb him at first and the decided I should let him know I am here. So, I just said a fast "hi" and let him go back to be the superstar of the night.
My aunt and I were seated next to the stage where the ceremony was gonna be. I could see Jon's stepmom and stepsister were sitting next to Kris' parents. They looked happy. The ceremony was short but sweet. And must be hot too 'cause my aunt notice the sweats were dropping from Jon's head "sweating like it's raining" my aunt said to me. A Chinese way to describe heavy sweating. Of course in China, no celebration can be a true celebration without food. We had so many food on the table include corcodile's foot! That scared eveyone on my table. No one was willing to try again once they know what it was.
For Chinese wedding, there is no dancing. We headed home after the dinner. It was nice to see someone I know in the States the 2nd day I am home. So I don't feel too much of homesick. My aunt and I went back to my parents' apartment. We talked about the wedding with my parents. And my aunt went home. My parents and I went on for their regular night which is in bed by 10 pm. I was tired because of the jet lag. 10 pm was perfect for me. 2nd day is done, 59 days to go.
