Summer outfits are out and fall outfits are in. Most of the clothing stores already had flip of clothes. And, NY fashion week started this week as well. I am very exciting about fall clothes too even though I love summer weather.
Our visual person has been busy with other stores. Our store is smaller than others, so it doesn't get a lot of attention from our visual person. He left an empty mannequin in the window display for days. Few weeks ago I finally had enough with the bad look of the display . I asked my manager if I can dress up the mannequin. He said:" Sure, you can go ahead. But It has to be female items, fall items and the items which haven't been used by other mannequins."
OK. I thought it might be easy. But this mannequin has no legs, I can't put on a pair of pants, sweaters are used by other mannequins, one piece dress is too simply, and we don't have a lot of fall items yet. It took me about 10 mins to come up with an idea. The school is starting. Many teenagers are coming in for school clothes and plaid is popular this fall. Let me make a school uniform style. After another 10 mins, here is it!! My first mannequin dress up!
Our visual person came by couple times after that to do other things. And he didn't reject my mannequin. I think the main reason is he was just happy that I did his job. But it still made me happy that he didn't take down my outfit and put up another one.
It was so much fun! I actually think it might be a great job for me to just dress up mannequins or people....But I know my fashion knowledge isn't enough for that kind of career. And, plus every job needs degree these days...I don't have any fashion related degree either. Going back to school for another degree will be too expensive.
Maybe something will come along in the future. Who knows!
