OK. Only one week to go.
"Are you exciting?" One co-worker asked me. "Yeah. I guess I am." I answered. Before he asked me the question, I thought the feeling of uneasy was more like nervous. But he used the word "exciting" which might be the right word to use for my feeling right now. Somehow, I think my mind was trying to not admit that I am excited.
The luggage have been packed, like 3 times already. I had to repack them because of the weight limit. I can have two check-in luggage and one carry-one. The check-in has to be in 50 lbs each and the carry-on has to be in 11 lbs. And I only planned to have one check-in with me, but it has been over weight. Not too much over, like 5 lbs. So, I tried to move the 5 lbs in my carry-on. Um...it didn't work 'cause now my carry-on is over weight. I started to think how or what did I pack 2 years ago when I went back to China. I did bring back many bottles of vitamins too, and other gifts too. How did I do it?
Well, I think my body lotion and shampoo/conditioner have something to do with the over weight this time. "Why you bring shampoo back?" My cousin asked me. My mom has been going to hairdresser 3 times a week since I was a teenager. She doesn't wash her hair at home, and my dad use the cheapest one on the market 'cause he doesn't care how his hair looks like at the age of 64. And, I had hard time to wash my hair without conditioner last time when I go back since my hair can be super dry without it. "Why don't you just buy at home?" My cousin asked again. Well, 'cause I don't want to use money to buy things that I might not bring back. Also, I am gonna end up using my parents' money. I wanted to limit things that I buy. "Why will you using your parents' money?" You might ask me that since my cousin already know the answer. My parents never want me to use my own money. Maybe they feel I am their child, so they want to take care of me. Or, maybe they want to take care of me since they couldn't do it for 16 years. I don't know the real reason but I guess it's one of those if not both.
That's why all those daily life items end up in my luggage: shampoo, conditioner, face cream, body lotion, female pads, toothpaste, even Q-tips.
And, 2 months of clothes are't light. Same reasons as above. I don't want to buy too many clothes from China even I know I will end up buying some. I already have a lot of clothes over here, and too many pairs of shoe. I don't want to use too much of my parents' money or end up have 300 pairs of shoe. Another thing to consider is the weather. I will be in China for the rest of August, the entire September and first half October. Therefore, I need summer and fall outfit. I need to plan ahead. Shorts, Tan top, chiffon skirt but also jeans, light jacket even light sweater. My hometown weather is very muggy and I will be walking a lot. I need to consider of the thickness of the clothes as well. Unlike in US, I can get in an air-conditioned car and walk in an air-conditioned building. I am expecting a lot of sweating in China. That bring up the questions of what kind of shoes should I bring.
I don't walk too much or even stand too long in US, therefore, a pair of uncomfortable high heels can stay more than few hours on my feet. But that won't be the case in China. Unfortunately, I haven't wear any high heels long enough to know which pair is uncomfortable and which pair is not. That doesn't help me. I am actually just taking a guess and pack the ones that I think it's comfortable. Being a person who cares about her outfit, I just simply can't only bring one style of shoes home, like flats. Another issue of packing.
I have exactly one week to figure out how to pack, how many luggage to pack and what to pack. I will be fine. I will figure something out!
